Haveri: Former Hirekerur MLA U. B. Banakar, who is considered to be close to Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and Former Chief Minister B. S. Yediyurappa, on Wednesday November 9 resigned from the primary membership of the BJP, the post of Chairman of the Warehousing Corporation and the Director of the Veerashaiva Lingayat Development Corporation.
Banakar’s decision, a day after the BJP’s Jana Sankalp Yatra was held in the District on Tuesday November 8, has created a political stir in the Constituency and a lot of curiosity has been created about his next move.
U. B. Banakar, who is closely associated with Former Chief Minister B. S. Yediyurappa, was elected as an MLA in 1994 by blooming the lotus for the first time in the District. When Yediyurappa formed the KJP in 2013, even he had joined the KJP. He rejoined the BJP and in the 2018 elections, he was defeated by a margin of 555 votes.
Later, Agriculture Minister B. C. Patil left the Congress and joined the BJP in 2019, the two had travelled in the Constituency as a pair. B. C. Patil had won the by-election. The relationship between the two had soured, recently. When the BJP Government came to power, Banakara was given the post of Chairman of the Warehousing Corporation and director of the Veerashaiva Lingayat Development Corporation. Now there is talk in the Constituency that the faction which has resigned from BJP has turned towards the Congress party.
