Kalasa-Banduri row: Man dies during farmer’s protest

Belagavi: A man who was protesting over the implementation of Kalasa-Banduri canal project suffered cardiac arrest here on Friday at Bailhongal.

Komal Shankar Pujer, manager of Veerarani Kittur Channamma Urban Credit Souhardha Bank at Bailhongal is the deceased. He had a cardiac arrest while attending the farmers’ 25th day protest for the Kalasa-Banduri.

According to sources, Pujer (25) and other bank staff participated in the protest after celebrating Gandhi Jayanthi at the bank. Pujer suddenly collapsed holding his chest and was immediately shifted to a nearby prvate hospital where he died.

His body was taken to the Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna Circle, where a one-minute silence was observed.

Soon after the news spread, protesters resorted to stone pelting and setting tyres afire. All commercial establishments closed their shutters and vehicles, including government buses, went off the roads. Protesters demanded financial aid to Pujer’s kin.
