A love dispute turned violent when a young man, Praveen Kumar (31), was shot by his ex-girlfriend near the KMF Dairy in Belagavi on Wednesday night. Praveen, a resident of Dwarakanagar in Tilakwadi, was critically injured and is currently receiving treatment at the Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences (BIMS).
The Malmaruti police have arrested three individuals in connection with the shooting, including Nidha Kittur, Praveen’s ex-girlfriend, and her associate Nazia. The incident stems from a bitter breakup between Praveen and Nidha, who had parted ways four years ago. After the breakup, Praveen began a relationship with Smitha, a woman from Mahantesh Nagar, and frequently visited her home.
Recent tensions arose when Praveen informed Nidha about his new relationship with Smitha. Enraged, Nidha, accompanied by her friends, confronted Praveen at Smitha’s house. The confrontation escalated, and Nidha allegedly shot Praveen twice, injuring him in the leg and face. Smitha also sustained minor injuries in the scuffle.
Praveen was rushed to BIMS Hospital and is now recovering. Police Commissioner Yada Martin Marbanyang visited the hospital and crime scene. The Malmaruti police have formed a special investigation team to apprehend two other suspects who remain at large. The source of the firearm used in the attack is also under investigation.
The police have registered a case and are continuing their investigation into the incident.
