Shiv Sena (UBT) Protests in Kolhapur Over Karnataka Boundary Dispute

Belagavi: Shiv Sena (UBT) leaders staged a protest at the Mahalaxmi-Ambabai temple in Kolhapur on Wednesday, raising slogans against Karnataka during the visit of former minister Prabhu Chavan, MLA Sunil Kumar, and other officials from Karnataka. The protest was a response to the ongoing Maharashtra-Karnataka boundary dispute and the perceived mistreatment of Marathi-speaking people in Karnataka.

The protestors, led by Kolhapur District President Vijay Devane and others, demanded the merger of Marathi-speaking areas with Maharashtra. They expressed their frustration over what they claimed were ongoing atrocities against Marathi speakers in Karnataka, and the lack of freedom to hold public gatherings like the Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti’s (MES) Maha Melava, which was prevented by the Karnataka authorities.

Chavan, addressing the protestors, acknowledged the long-standing boundary dispute, noting that the matter was still pending before the Supreme Court. He assured the protesters that he would raise their concerns with the Karnataka government, as he, along with Sunil Kumar, was an MLA from the opposition BJP. The protest reflects the continued tension over the border issue, with both states involved in a legal and political struggle for control over certain areas.
