Chikkodi: On Karnataka Rajyotsava Day, the Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti (MES) annually raises the border dispute issue. Instead of celebrating Kannada Rajyotsava, MES has been observing a black day each year. This year, MES is once again gearing up for a Black Day event in Belagavi, with the support of Shiv Sena, even though the district administration has imposed a ban. The Uddhav Thakray-led faction of Shiv Sena has called for a ‘Belagavi Chalo’ rally today, on November 1.
Shiv Sena’s Kolhapur district president, Vijay Devane and Uddhav Thakray have made an appeal to MES workers to assemble at 8 am near Laxmi Tek in Kagal, Kolhapur district. They have chosen to travel to Belagavi through the Koganolli toll gate, situated on the outskirts of Nippani along the Karnataka-Maharashtra border, while carrying the Bhagavad Gita from Kagal.
Leaders from Maharashtra who attempt to cross the border will face legal consequences. Belagavi City Police Commissioner Siddharamappa has issued a warning that individuals who break the law during black day commemorations will be subject to legal action.
