Belagavi: In a shocking incident, Kulagodu station police constable Yellappa Handibhag (28), younger brother of DySP Kallappa Handibhag committed suicide on Thursday, October 27 at his rented residence at Kulagodu in Belagavi.
It may be recalled that Kallappa Handibhag, DySP of Chikkamagaluru too had hanged himself on July 5 after his name was dragged in an abduction case of a Chikkamagalur based businessman named Tejas Gowda.
The death of Yellappa Handibhag comes as shocker especially because on Thursday, prime accused in Tejas Gowda abduction case had revealed that Kallappa had no role to play in the abduction case and that he was trapped in the case by Gowda himself who plotted and staged the abduction drama to settle score with Kallappa. The Handibhag family which should have celebrated the news is unfortunately mourning again over loss of another son of the family.
The reason behind Yellappa taking this extreme step has not yet been confirmed.
On Wednesday, Yellappa was deputed on duty at Kittoor Utsav, which he completed and returned to his accommodation at Kulagodu where he was found hanging from the ceiling.
Gokak DSP Veerabhadraiah visited the spot.
