Belagavi: A jewellery store witnessed an attempted robbery when two masked, unidentified individuals entered the premises. They brandished a pistol and demanded gold jewellery from the shop owner, Prashantha Honrao, who was attending to his shop with the door open as usual. Demonstrating remarkable bravery, Prashantha refused to comply, leading to a physical altercation between him and the robbers. Despite his injuries, his resistance forced the assailants to flee the scene.
Prashantha was subsequently hospitalized for his injuries. After the incident, a team comprising City Police Commissioner SN Siddaramappa, DCP Rohana Jagadisha, and DCP PV Sneha arrived at the crime scene for an investigation. Additionally, experts from the Forensic Science Laboratory, Dog Squad personnel, and fingerprint analysts were called in to assist with the investigation.
City Police Commissioner S.N. Siddaramappa provided an update on the situation, stating, “Two unidentified individuals entered the jewellery shop and attempted to rob the owner, who courageously defended against their attack. Fortunately, no shots were fired from the assailants’ pistol. We have registered a case of attempted robbery and launched an investigation led by ACP Narayan Bharamani. The entire incident was captured on the store’s CCTV system, which will be invaluable in our efforts to swiftly locate and apprehend the culprits.”
