Vijayapura: Reacting to the ongoing fiasco about the election for the post of All India Congress Committee President, Senior BJP leader and the Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Prahalad Joshi has chided that whoever becomes the President, he would be remotely controlled by the Gandhi family again.
“No matter who becomes the next President of the Congress, the remote control will be in the hands of the Gandhi family. The President will not have a free hand,” he said.
Speaking to mediapersons on the lines of the inauguration of the new hockey turf at the Sainik School Vijayapura on Friday September 30, he was reacting to the possibility of Congress leader, Mallikarjun Kharge becoming the next President of the AICC.
He said that the BJP has no interest in what is happening in Congress over the election of the new President.
Talking about Rahul Gandhi who has been leading the arduous and ambitious ‘Bharat Jodo’ campaign, Joshi described Rahul as a non-serious and part-time politician of the Congress.
“The Congress has confused leaders and therefore the party is also confused and in disarray. It has a leader who is not serious about taking responsibility. This is why the party has been losing polls State after State. Wherever the party has won the polls, it is not because of the central leaders but because of the local leaderships,” he said.
Replying to the charges of the Congress that it at least has internal democracy to elect its President unlike the BJP which has no election procedure, Joshi did not give any satisfactory reply.
He replied vaguely stating that the BJP has a system where nobody would be knowing who will become the next President of the party. Therefore, any party activist could become the President of the BJP, he said.
Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, Ministers, C. C. Patil, Anand Singh, MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal and other party leaders were present.
