Vijayapura: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) President D. K. Shivakumar said that there is a possibility of Dalits becoming the Chief Minister of the State, averred Water Resources Minister Govind Karjol and asked whether anyone had taken an oath that Dalits should not be made Chief Ministers from the Congress party which ruled the country for 60 years.

Speaking to mediapersins during a visit to the under-construction Vijayapura Airport Project area on the outskirts of the City on Saturday December 10, he said, “Atal Bihari Vajpayee had expressed his desire to make Dalits the Prime Minister in the country. When Babu Jagjivan Ram had the opportunity to become the Prime Minister, Congress party leaders defeated Jagjivan Ram with the aim of depriving Dalits of the top post. Ask D. K. Shivakumar if he has an answer to this,” he said.

“The Congress party can never uplift the Dalits and always saw to it that Dalit persons should not be educated, and they should not stand on their own strength. On the contrary, it is the desire and mindset that Dalits should be only the vote bank of the Congress party,” he said.
