Vijayapura: Legislative Council Speaker, Basavaraj Horatti has blamed voters for making politicians corrupt either by demanding or accepting freebies from the politicians.
Addressing media persons on Thursday March 30, he said that some people behave as if their whole life is dependent on freebies only. “No matter how much effort we put to make elections inducement free, but until the people realise that accepting gifts is not right, the bad trend will continue. If you accept the gifts from the politicians, after the victory, the elected representative will always say that people have not given votes for free as it is done in exchange of the gifts,” he said.
The Speaker observed that if people wish, they can bring substantial transparency in elections by not getting lured by gifts and inducements.
Horatti also appealed to the voters to vote for the candidate who has remained with the people and has been working for them. “Don’t vote for the candidate who will only mint money by sitting in the State Capital after the victory instead of helping the people of his constituency,” he said.
