Vijayapura: There are many misconceptions due to which people hesitate to undergo sterilisation, said Taluk Health Education Officer Sunanda Ambalagi and added that proper advice should be taken from the doctors and one should proceed further.
She was speaking at an awareness programme on male sterilisation at Primary Health Centre and Anganawadi Centre in Halasangi Village. “This is also due to social humiliation including falling ill, from speculative assumptions that having surgery reduces sexual potency. Men are not willing to undergo this surgery because of excessive pain, sutures and misconceptions of rest,” she added.
She assured, “Don’t be embarrassed to undergo vasectomy. She said the role of both a woman and a man is important for the birth of a child.
Even as the population control moves through sterilisation of women, there has been a lukewarm response to the men’s scheme across the Taluk. He said men have stayed away from sterilisation and are showing interest in getting their wife operated on, or other temporary family planning. The notion that sterilisation surgery is limited to a woman and the patriarchal system is deeply rooted in our society, she rued.
