Vijayapura: In the wake of the outbreak of communicable diseases such as dengue, chikungunya and malaria in some localities of the Town, especially in the slum areas, the Health Department and the Municipal staff have launched a joint operation to create awareness among the people about the adherence to health care principles.

In the 11th ward of Pilekemma Nagar, cleanliness has become a mirage. Being a slum, of course there is lack of sense of health and environmental protection among people. Despite several warnings that water should not be stored in open barrels in front of the house, the water storage has resulted in the growth of larvae.

Taluk Health Officer Dr. Satish Tiwari, Taluk Health Field Education Officer Anusuya Teradal, City Health Inspector M. S. Gowda, Municipal Health Department Staff Javeed Naigodi and Mahantesh Kattimani visited house to house and created awareness about cleanliness.

The Health Department has conducted a survey in suspected wards through ASHA workers in the City limits. During the survey, it was found that the larva was found in the water storage in front of several houses. There have also been instances of 2 to 3 families arguing with ASHA workers for not allowing them to clear the water storage facility where such larvae are located. In this context, the officials themselves visited such houses to create awareness about the problems caused by larvae and persuaded them to clean the water storage facility.

People in the areas where larvae has been found have been asked to create awareness about the pandemic and conduct a massive campaign to maintain cleanliness.

The Municipality has taken various measures including spraying of pesticides, fogging etc. in affected localities and disposal of garbage on cleanliness.

The Taluk Health Officer has also instructed the Municipality to campaign using microphone on vehicles.
