Vijayapura: The ongoing works of Ibrahimpur Railway overbridge seems to be in its last phase as the works have nearly come to completion.

Though the contractor had assured to complete the project and open the bridge to the public by November end itself, he has taken one more extension and has assured to complete it by December end and open the bridge for people from January 2023.

In a reply to the Deputy Commissioner, Vijaymahantesh Danammanavar on the status of the project, the official has claimed that deck slab concreting for the Railway span has been completed while the approach slab concreting was underway. “After allowing the curing period of 21 days for concrete, bituminous mastic asphalting will be done as the final activity while the project is expected to be commissioned by December 25,” he added.

It may be noted that the project which started over four years ago, is still going on after taking several extensions and unavoidable delays due Covid pandemic that called for a prolonged lockdown.

Even after resuming the works, the contractor took at least four extensions of two months each during the visit of MP, Ramesh Jigajinagi and Deputy Commissioner, Vijaymahantesh Danammanavar.

Owing to the inordinate delay, the people are suffering as they are forced to take long deviations from Vajrahanuman Nagar to either reach Jumanal road or Managuli road.

Since it is the only way left and that too has to wait till railway crossings on multiple occasions in a day, the road witnesses longer traffic jams causing severe inconvenience to the commuters.

Meanwhile, Danammanavar who is regularly monitoring the progress of the project as he too has pressure from the people to ensure the early completion of the project, hoped that this time, the project would be ready by year-end.

“We are hopeful and optimistic that the project will end by this year and we will have the ROB opened for people by January next year,” he said.

The residents are also eagerly waiting for the project to be over as it will ease the traffic to a significant extent. “Owing to the absence of the ROB, we have been facing enormous difficulty as we had to wait several times in the day to cross the road. The ROB will help not only the normal commuters but mainly ambulances also as they will no longer have to wait to take the patient to the hospital”, said Suresh Biradar, a contractor and resident of Ganesh Nagar.
