Vijayapura: Expressing dismay over the neglect of Vijayapura District in giving funds for flood relief works, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee Campaign Committee Chief and MLA M. B. Patil has accused the BJP Government of meting out step-motherly treatment to Vijayapura.

In a release he states that several districts have suffered loss due to heavy rains in the State. The State Government has announced Rs. 200 Crore compensation to around 20 districts including Koppal, Vijayanagara, Dharawad and Udupi. However, the Government did not include Vijayapura even after the District Administration declared floods in at least three taluks in the region.

Venting anguish on this attitude of the Government, MLA Patil, who represents Bableshwar Assembly segment that is hit by flood due to overflow of Doni River, said that, “The State Government in order to give compensation for the flood-hit districts under SDRF funds released Rs. 200 Crore to various districts. I am stunned that Vijayapura has not been given flood relief funds even after the district witnessed floods for at least one week in Bableshwar and Tikota Taluks.”

“Vijayapura is being meted out step-motherly treatment even while allocating the development funds. Now, most of the parts in the District have been severely affected with floods and the Government, with not allocating flood relief funds to the region, has once again proved that they are shameless,” enraged Patil.

“If any ministers from this region have slightest dignity and concern for people then get the reports from the Deputy Commissioner about the loss occurred due to floods and rain and get sanctioned relief funds to the District too. If the ministers concerned fail, then I will jump into the streets and stage a protest against the Government,” cautioned KPCC Campaign Committee Chief Patil.

It may also be noted that the District Administration has claimed that, “The floods in Doni River belt has affected over 1,520 hectares of standing crops in the District. Around 140 houses have been either fully or partially damaged in the last one week in the region. Among the houses damaged, 86 have been reported in Vijayapura, 30 in Muddebihal, 13 in Bableshwar and remaining in other taluks. Bableshwar, Tikota, Devara Hipparagi and Talikoti are the worst affected areas. Two people have also been killed in the last one week.”
