Vijayapura: City MLA Basangouda Patil Yatnal strongly opposed the Muslim reservation under 2A Category on Monday October 10 and urged that Brahmins be included in the minority list.

Speaking to mediapersons here he said, “Muslims benefit from reservations under the minority quota and 2A category. For them, the 2A category reservation should be halted. This has been considered seriously at the government level.”

He further said, “They shouldn’t gain benefits from both sides.” No community should be allowed to receive benefits of this kind. Instead, there should be a larger reservation for other underprivileged communities. We have had discussions with the Chief Minister. We are confident that the government will take necessary action soon.”

“Brahmins are about 2-3 per cent of the population, making them the real minority. They should be listed as a minority. Muslims are not minorities,” he asked.

Yatnal asked the government to end all reservations of such elements, alleging that some of them exploited the reservation and engaged in anti-national activities.
“If those involved in anti-national activities and those who support Pakistan want a reservation, they can go to Pakistan,” he added.
