Vijayapura: The District Police have succeeded in bursting the fake raisin traders’ gang, who hail from Gujarat, and arrested one person for allegedly making an attempt to con the raisin farmers.

The police have not only cracked the case but also recovered a whopping 117 tonnes of raisins, which is worth Rs 2.26 Crore from Ahmedabad of Gujarat. The investigation team has managed to arrest one person connected to the case, where the remaining seven are at large.

The accused are Kamalkumar, Krunalkumar Sachin Patel, Sunil, Jayeesh, Bharat J. Patel, Neel Patel, Ronikkumar Patel and Pinkesh S. Patel and all are residents of Ahmedabad of Gujarat.

Speaking to the reporters, SP H. D. Ananda Kumar, said that, “With the sincere efforts of the investigation team a fake trader’s gang from Gujarat has been identified. These fraudsters used to purchase a truck load of raisins from traders and farmers. After the deal, they used to credit some percent of the advance amount and then used to promise that they would make the remaining due after a couple of weeks through RTGS but they used to disappear. At least four con cases have been reported in APMC Police Station jurisdictions in the last couple of months. I had personally monitored this case in order to take it to the logical end, he said.

Further, Kumar added, “Based on a tip-off, our personnel part of the investigation team flew to Gujarat to nab the fraudsters. However, we managed to arrest one person connected to the case. We are on a hunt for the remaining accused, who are at large.”

To a question, whether any localities helped fraudsters, SP Anand Kumar, pointed out that, “This is one of the biggest recoveries this year. We are also in search of the local persons that helped these accused to flee with truck loads of raisins. It is impossible that without taking help of localities they escaped with over Rs. 2 Crore worth raisins. The investigation is being made in all possible angles.”
