Vijayapura: Demanding legal action against the sexual harassment of wrestlers and the arrest of BJP MP Bijbhushan Singh, the Joint Trade Union Samyukta Karnataka District Committee has launched a protest.
The protestors submitted a memorandum to the President through the Additional Deputy Commissioner who arrived at the massive protest near Ambedkar Circle.
Bhimashi Kaladgi, vice-president of Karnataka Prantha Raitha Sangha, said, “It is a known fact that proud sportspersons have been staging an indefinite protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi since April 24, 2023.
The FIR was not registered despite a police complaint. These protesting wrestlers are only demanding an impartial probe into the alleged sexual harassment and violence against them. They are also demanding that the report of the inquiry committee constituted in the wake of the allegations made by the wrestlers be brought to the notice of the public, he said.
The head of the Wrestling Federation of India and other staff members have been accused of sexual harassment and violence against eminent women wrestlers, including minor girls. It is a shocking, and shameful event for the entire country.
It is a matter of shame that the Modi leading coalition government, which propagates ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’, is protecting an ‘accused BJP MP’ of a heinous crime. The BJP-led government, which was supposed to take legal action on the basis of the complaint and provide protection to the aggrieved women athletes, is using its police forces to crack down on the athletes protesting for justice, a week after the Delhi Police came drunk and brutalised the protestors. In the meantime, protesting that the fight will not stop till justice is done. It is highly commendable.
Inside the new parliament building While the accused BJP MP was receiving VIP hospitality, the protesting wrestlers were subjected to demeaning and abuse.
Annaraya Elagere, district president of Karnataka Prantha Raitha Sangha, said that contrary to the morality and conduct of the Constitution in Parliament, which is the proud institution of democracy, the sculpture in the museum of the royal symbol has been installed near the Speaker’s chair of the Parliament, carrying out religious rituals that symbolize priestly supremacy that justifies male arrogance. At The same time, The Country’s Proud Talented Women Athletes who Have been protesting For the Last one and a half months demanding Justice and Law Enforcement have been treated very badly. This is a sign of the next procedure of the new Parliament. This is a serious blow to the tradition of our Constitution, he said.
The BJP government should immediately stop trying to demoralise sportspersons who have the potential to bring laurels to the country and immediately sack and arrest BJP MP BijBhushan Singh, who is accused of sexually harassing women athletes, including POSCO. Protests are being held across the country demanding an impartial probe and stringent punishment for the accused.
