Vijayapura: A police officer challenged the Leader of the Opposition in the State Assembly, Siddaramaiah, in a Facebook comment that quickly went viral on social media.
At a speech during the “Bharat Jodo Yatra,” which was held by the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee, the policeman, constable Rajashekhar Khanapur of the Vijayapura Rural Police Station, made a comment in response to Siddaramaiah’s words. The police constable’s post has also come under scanner, mostly from Siddaramaiah’s supporters.
Siddaramaiah had said on Friday last that the Congress would return to power after the State Government changes in six months at Gundlupete, Chamarajanagara District. I warn a few of the police officers that we will have to teach them if they support the BJP.
To this, Khanapur responded by saying on Facebook that Siddaramaiah “should be able to get home without police security when you criticise the police to such an extent.”
The officer has been criticised by the supporters of the previous Chief Minister for publicly supporting the BJP on social media, though. They noted that “a government employee must work without disclosing connection to any party.”
Vijayapura District Superintendent of Police H. D. Ananda Kumar, has said, “the Facebook statement made by Policeman Khanapur will be reviewed into. If we get a complaint, we will take action. So far, nobody has complained about this,” he clarified.
