Vijayapura: Alleging the State Government led by Chief Minister, Basavaraj Bommai of violating the Supreme Court order and rules of the Constitution in issuing Caste Certificates to Talawar and Pariwar communities as Schedule Caste, the members of the Valmiki community have sternly opposed the Government decision.

Addressing presspersons on Friday November 11, Mareppa Nayak Makadapur, the State General Secretary of Karnataka State SC/ST Fake Caste Certificate Preventive Committee has said that only to gain political benefits in the coming Assembly polls, the Government is issuing ST certificate against the norms.

He claimed that as per the gazette notification issued by the Union Government on issuing ST Certificates to Talawar and Pariwar communities, only the sub-caste of Nayaka community are eligible for getting ST Certificate and not all those coming under Talawar or Pariwar community.

“If you go deep, you will find that people of Talawar community are found in many castes. Basically, Talawar is not a caste but a representation of an occupation. Therefore, just because one has come from the Talawar community, does not mean that he is eligible to get an ST certificate,” he said.

Makadapur said that by issuing ST Certificates to every person of Talawar or Pariwar community, the Government is not only violating the SC order and Constitution but also creating a rift between Valmiki and Talwar communities.

“If every person belonging to the Talwar community gets an ST Certificate, then they will also be eligible for all the Government benefits under the ST quota. This means that the real ST community like Valmiki will get deprived of these benefits,” he said.

Makadapur also expressed anguish over how different political parties are fighting to claim credit for giving ST Certificates to Talawar and Pariwar communities without even thinking that issuing ST Certificates is fundamentally wrong.

To a question, he said that the community has also met MLAs and MP of their community and has urged them to take up the matter seriously and cancel issuing of ST Certificates to Talawar and Pariwar.

“We have made it very clear that we are ready to protest against our own Ministers and MLAs if they don’t heed to our demand,” he said.

He also said that even the Tahasildars who are issuing Certificates will face legal action in the coming days for violating the orders.

“We are giving warning to the Tahasildars who are issuing ST Certificates to the Talawar and Pariwar community that we will file a criminal case against such officials if they issue Caste Certificates.

He also said that on Monday November 14, the community will hold a protest outside the DC Office here against the issue.
