BELAGAVI: A young married woman named Kanavika attempted suicide by consuming poison at her parental home, allegedly due to dowry harassment from her husband and in-laws. She is currently receiving treatment at the Belagavi Institute of Medical Science (BIMS) Hospital.
Kanavika, aged 20, recently married Ganesh Godyalkar, who claimed to be a software engineer. Shortly after their marriage, Kanavika reportedly began facing harassment for dowry. A medico-legal case has been registered regarding the incident.
Previously, Kanavika had lodged a complaint with the women’s police, naming her husband Ganesh, his father Thammanna, mother Sujatha, elder sister Sowmya, and uncle Paramesh Kyarashetty, accusing them of dowry harassment. Despite assurances from her husband and in-laws that the harassment would stop, the mistreatment allegedly continued.
Kanavika has now revealed that her in-laws took Rs 7 lakh from her mother in parts and that her husband’s uncle, Paramesh, sexually assaulted her. A separate case has been registered at the women’s police station addressing these additional allegations.
Kanavika remains under medical care at BIMS Hospital, and authorities are investigating the claims to ensure justice is served.
