Mangaluru: The Youth Associations and various Commissions of St. Sebastian Church, Bendur, organised a Silent Candlelight Prayer Protest in front of the church on Saturday evening, expressing solidarity with students affected by the alleged irregularities in the NEET 2026 examination.
The peaceful gathering brought together a large number of youth, religious sisters, parents, parishioners and members of various parish associations, who united in prayer while seeking justice, transparency and fairness in the country’s education system.

The participants condemned the reported use of force against peaceful protesters and prayed for students affected by the alleged examination irregularities. Special prayers were also offered for the eternal repose of those who allegedly lost their lives in connection with the NEET issue, while remembering their bereaved families and seeking justice for them.
Parish Priest calls for fairness and transparency
Addressing the gathering, Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Walter D’Souza urged everyone to uphold justice, honesty and transparency in the education system. He said every hardworking student deserves a fair opportunity and called upon the faithful to pray for truth, justice and the future of the nation’s youth.
The prayer protest reflected the parish’s commitment to supporting students through peaceful and faith-based means.
Candles symbolise hope and solidarity
Holding lighted candles, participants observed a period of silence before offering prayers, sending a strong message of solidarity with students demanding justice. Organisers said the candlelight vigil symbolised hope, peace and unity, reaffirming the Church’s support for fairness, accountability and compassion.
The event concluded with prayers for peace and a renewed appeal for justice for all students affected by the alleged NEET irregularities.
