Bengaluru FC held league leaders Mohun Bagan Super Giant to a hard-fought goalless draw in Gameweek 5 of the Indian Super League (ISL) 2025–26 season at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium on Saturday.

Despite Mohun Bagan dominating possession and creating several chances, Bengaluru FC delivered a disciplined defensive performance to become the first team this season to take points off the Mariners.

With the result, Mohun Bagan remain at the top of the table with 13 points, while Bengaluru FC move to sixth place with eight points. Midfielder Dimitri Petratos was named Player of the Match.

Early chances for both teams

Bengaluru FC head coach Renedy Singh fielded an unchanged starting XI after the previous win over Mohammedan Sporting Club, with Sunil Chhetri leading the attack in a 4-3-3 formation.

Mohun Bagan, coached by Sergio Lobera, made two changes to their side, introducing Tom Aldred in defence and Manvir Singh in midfield, while Jamie Maclaren led the attack.

The hosts started brightly, with Ryan Williams testing goalkeeper Vishal Kaith in the second minute after a pass from Roshan Singh. Mohun Bagan responded quickly when Maclaren forced a save from Gurpreet Singh Sandhu in the eighth minute.

As the first half progressed, Mohun Bagan began to control possession. Dimitri Petratos fired narrowly wide, while Liston Colaco also tested Gurpreet from distance. However, Bengaluru’s defence remained organised, and the first half ended without a goal.

The second half saw both sides continue to push for the breakthrough. Bengaluru midfielder Sirojiddin Kuziev tested Kaith from long range, while Mohun Bagan centre-back Alberto Rodríguez forced a sharp save from Gurpreet just after the hour mark.

Bengaluru came closest to scoring in the 63rd minute when Sunil Chhetri found space inside the penalty area, but his shot was blocked by Anirudh Thapa before Subhasish Bose cleared the rebound.

Mohun Bagan created several late chances, with Rodríguez and Petratos going close in the final minutes, but Gurpreet produced crucial saves to keep the score level.

Despite a total of 23 shots in the match, neither side could find the decisive goal, and the game ended in a goalless draw, maintaining Mohun Bagan’s unbeaten run in the competition.
