The Bengaluru police department is mourning the sudden demise of Shivappa Nayakar, an Inspector attached to the City Special Branch (CSB), who passed away following a heart attack.

The 56-year-old officer, belonging to the 2010 batch, reportedly complained of severe chest pain on Wednesday night and was rushed to the Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research for emergency treatment.

Despite medical efforts, he succumbed on Thursday, officials confirmed.

Respected officer from Belagavi

Originally from Somahatti village in Bailhongal taluk of Belagavi district, Shivappa Nayakar had built a reputation within the police force as a disciplined and supportive officer.

Colleagues described him as soft-spoken, approachable, and deeply committed to his duties. Many junior personnel reportedly looked up to him for guidance and support during his years of service.

At the time of his death, he was serving as an Inspector in the Bengaluru City Special Branch.

Police officials pay tribute

Soon after the news emerged, several senior police officials and colleagues visited the hospital to pay their last respects.

Police sources said his mortal remains are expected to be taken to his native village in Belagavi district for the final rites.

Senior officers expressed condolences to the bereaved family and remembered him as a sincere officer who served the department with dedication.

Concerns over stress in police force

The incident has once again highlighted growing concerns regarding work-related stress and health issues among police personnel in Bengaluru and across Karnataka.

In recent years, discussions around long working hours, mental stress, and health challenges faced by law enforcement officers have increasingly gained attention within the police department.
