In a major drug bust, authorities at Kempegowda International Airport have arrested four passengers arriving from Bangkok for allegedly smuggling hydroponic ganja valued at over ₹21.5 crore.
High-value narcotics seized
Officials said the contraband, believed to be hydroponically grown cannabis known for its high potency, was recovered during routine checks. The quantity seized is considered significant, both in terms of value and scale.
The accused were intercepted upon arrival, and their baggage was examined based on suspicion.
Arrest under stringent law
The four individuals have been booked under provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, which deals with offences related to possession, trafficking, and smuggling of narcotics.
Authorities confirmed that further investigation is underway to trace the origin and intended distribution network of the drugs.
Link to international trafficking
Preliminary findings suggest a possible link to international drug trafficking routes, with Bangkok often cited as a transit point in such cases. Officials are exploring whether the accused were acting independently or as part of a larger network.
Increased vigilance at airports
The seizure highlights intensified surveillance and enforcement measures at major airports. Agencies have been strengthening checks to curb drug smuggling attempts through air routes.
Ongoing investigation
Officials are continuing to interrogate the accused and analyse evidence to uncover wider connections. More arrests may follow as the probe progresses.
