Bengaluru: The state primary and secondary education department is likely to shut down around 150 aided Kannada medium schools due to the poor enrollment. A total of 50 schools have been shut already.
According to the sources in the department, around 150 aided Kannada medium schools in the state have less than 25 students. Notice has been issued to these schools.
“Besides these 150 schools, the state government has already shut 50 aided government schools due to the poor enrollment, taking the total number of schools to 200,” said sources.
Along with the primary schools, the state government has decided to shut high schools with poor enrollment. On November 2, eight aided high schools in Bengaluru South have been issued notices over school closure stating poor admission.
According to the sources, the education department has issued direction to the officers to make alternate arrangements to students of those schools which will be shut down in nearby government schools.
