Bengaluru: A 22-year-old woman from Shivamogga district was found dead in Agara Lake following allegations of harassment and blackmail by a youth, Police said.
The deceased has been identified as Vanishree, a native of Arodi near Belalamakki in Sagar taluk. She was staying at a paying guest accommodation in HSR Layout Sector 1 and worked in the sales department of a jewellery store in the area.
Woman allegedly leaves note
According to Police, Vanishree allegedly left a note naming a person identified as Abhishek and alleging that he had been blackmailing and harassing her.
Her roommate reportedly informed her sister Pooja about the note on the morning of August 22. Pooja and the PG owner subsequently searched for Vanishree before informing the HSR Layout Police.
Police, along with family members, searched the area around Agara Lake and later found Vanishree’s body in the lake.
Case registered against youth
Based on a complaint filed by Pooja, HSR Layout Police registered a case against Abhishek under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), relating to abetment of suicide.
In her complaint, Pooja alleged that Abhishek had been harassing Vanishree through calls, messages, photographs and videos. Police said the allegations are being investigated.
According to the complaint, Vanishree and Abhishek knew each other and had studied together during their PUC years. After completing her degree in Sagar, Vanishree had moved to Bengaluru for employment.
The investigation is underway to establish the circumstances surrounding her death and examine the allegations made in the complaint.
