Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah conferred 50-year-old Sharadamma from Chikkaballapura with “Best Woman Farmer” award 2017 on November 19 during the valedictory ceremony of Krishi Mela awards. Minister of Agriculture Krishna Byre Gowda was also present on the occasion.
Sharadamma from Chikkaballapura who is a true inspiration and best example for perseverance and hard work, has turned five-acre dry land into a fertile land. She has been growing over 10 crops ever since and also raises animals like cow, goat and pigs.
Sharadamma along with her husband discarded drip lines and developed a unique system of drip irrigation using mineral water bottles.
Speaking after the award ceremony, Sharadamma said, “We had to struggle for water at one point of time. Now with the help of drip irrigation, we grow coriander, brinjal, jasmine as well as mulberry. We have four cows, fifteen goats and thirty pigs in our farm.”
Sharadamma has served as the director of Milk Co-operative Society in Gudibande taluk.
