In a bid to enhance road safety and spread awareness among two-wheeler riders, Rotary Bangalore Midtown, in partnership with Bengaluru Traffic Police (BTP), handed out 250 certified helmets on Sunday.
The initiative specifically targeted riders from lower-income backgrounds, many of whom were found wearing weak, substandard helmets. Palani Loganathan, president of Rotary Bangalore Midtown, explained that the project aimed to empower those unable to afford high-quality helmets.
“As part of the campaign, we deliberately destroyed 250 fragile helmets and replaced them with durable, ISI-certified ones,” Loganathan stated. In addition to distributing helmets, the traffic police guided recipients on the importance of wearing sturdy protective gear while riding.
Loganathan emphasized the need for self-preservation, drawing a parallel with how people safeguard their mobile phones using screen protectors. This effort underscores the critical role of wearing proper helmets to mitigate the risks associated with road accidents.
The collaborative venture between Rotary and BTP shines a spotlight on the necessity of equipping riders with reliable safety gear, reducing vulnerabilities for thousands on the city’s roads.
