In observance of International Domestic Workers Day, the domestic workers’ rights union in Bengaluru has urged the government to take proactive measures to protect and support domestic workers.

Representatives from the union highlighted the economic challenges forcing many women into domestic work, emphasizing their essential yet often exploited contributions to the GDP. They called for the establishment of a task force, grievance redressal mechanism, and adoption of the C189 convention to ensure legal protections. Additionally, demands included a dedicated helpline, formation of a Domestic Workers Welfare Board, and tripartite boards to oversee employment standards, wages, working conditions, and social security.
