Bengaluru: Transgender rights activist Akkai Padmashali will be discussing the issue of continued discrimination and oppression of the LGBTQ community in India and the U.S. with former U.S. President Barack Obama, who will be in New Delhi on December 1 as part of the town hall event being organised by his non-profit organisation The Obama Foundation.
Obama is expected to interact with young leaders and learn about how they are impacting their communities. The town hall will expand the conversation about what it means to be an active citizen and make an impact, and how the Obama Foundation can support emerging leaders in this effort, the foundation said on its website.
Akkai said: “I received the invitation a week ago and I am excited to meet Obama, who, during his Presidency, did a lot for the rights of sexual minority communities in the U.S.”
