Amazon India is relocating its corporate headquarters from Bengaluru’s prestigious World Trade Centre (WTC) to a new site near the city’s outskirts, just 15 minutes from Kempegowda International Airport. The move, reported by Mint, aligns with the company’s global cost-cutting strategy.
The new office, situated in Sattva, offers a significant financial advantage. Amazon is expected to reduce rental expenses to nearly one-third of the ₹250 per square foot it currently pays at the WTC. This shift will help streamline costs while maintaining proximity to key transport hubs.
Amazon currently occupies about 500,000 square feet in the 30-story WTC building, owned by Brigade Enterprises Ltd. The company’s departure has raised concerns about the vacancy’s impact on Brigade’s ability to attract new tenants and the potential ripple effects on local rental markets.
The strategic relocation highlights a growing trend among corporations to optimize operations and cut expenses amid economic pressures, particularly in the tech sector. The new office near the airport also underscores Amazon’s focus on logistics and connectivity, vital to its operations in India.
