Bengaluru: The High Court on Monday ordered issue of notice to the State government on petitions which have questioned a notification permitting registration of only four-stroke LPG dual fuel autorickshaws in areas having LPG retrofitting and re-fuelling facility, and only petrol run four-stroke autorickshaws in areas without LPG supply.
Justice B.V. Nagarathna passed the order on the petitions filed by manufacturer of autorickshaws.
The petitioners, pointing out that the notification, issued on July 7, 2017, virtually bans sale of diesel-operated autorickshaws, have claimed that the State has no authority to ban registration of diesel-operated autorickshaws as such an action would be contrary to the Motor Vehicles Act, and the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, which have certified diesel operated autorickshaws for public use.
