In order to facilitate the construction of the Lakkasandra Underground Metro station, Bannerghatta main road will be closed from the MICO signal up to Anepalya Junction for a duration of one year starting from Monday. Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) issued a statement detailing the diversion routes for affected traffic.
Diversion Routes and Traffic Guidance
According to BMRCL, vehicles traveling on Bannerghatta Main Road aiming to reach Anepalya Junction will need to take a right turn at the MICO signal, proceeding towards Adugodi signal via BOSCH link road, and then make a left turn. Additionally, traffic from Dairy Circle towards Shanthinagar is advised to take a left at 7th Main Road of Wilson Garden.
Impact on Pink Line Construction: Phase 2
This closure is part of the ongoing construction for the Pink Line underground metro station, a crucial component of Phase 2 of the metro project. Phase 2, known as Reach 6, spans a distance of 21.26 km from Kalena Agrahara to Nagawara, with 18 stations in total. The line comprises both elevated and underground sections, with 6 stations elevated from Kalena Agrahara to Tavarekere and 12 stations underground from Diary Circle to Nagavara.
Projected Commencement and Commuter Concerns
The Pink Line is expected to commence operations in 2025, as per BMRCL projections. However, commuters have expressed concerns over the traffic disruptions caused by the ongoing metro construction. Supreeth Kumar, a regular commuter, voiced the challenges faced by travelers on Bannerghatta Road and surrounding areas due to the congestion during peak hours exacerbated by the construction activities.
