Bengaluru: Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Mayor G Padmavathy on Saturday launched cleaning initiative at Krishna Rajendra market in the city. Around 200 conservancy workers participated in the cleaning programme.Mayor Padmavathy encouraged the conservancy workers to remove the garbage from the KR market premises. Deputy Mayor Anand, Leader of Ruling Party in the BBMP Council R S Satyanarayana and BBMP officials were present on the occasion.
The mayor directed the conservancy workers to remove petty shops that were put up illegally in the market. She also advised the tenants not to allow hawkers in front of their shops. She directed the BBMP officials to ensure clearing garbage on daily basis from the market. “The BBMP officials will be responsible if garbage is not cleared at this market on a daily basis,” she said.
It may be recalled the mayor made a surprise visit to KR market on Friday and was shocked to see the accumulated garbage on the market premises. She also ordered the BBMP Commissioner to cut the 15 days’ salary of negligent BBMP staffs for not taking any initiative to keep the market clean.
Committee to for KR Market
The mayor said a committee, comprising with local corporators, BBMP officials and representatives of non-governmental organisation (NGO). “This committee will help to keep the KR market clean,” she said.
