Bengaluru: The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) has finalised the location for its ambitious skydeck project, which will feature Bengaluru’s tallest tower and is expected to become a major landmark and tourist attraction for the city. The proposed skydeck will come up on a 46-acre parcel of land at Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Layout, situated close to the Major Arterial Road (MAR), according to officials familiar with the development.

Sources in the BDA said the proximity of the site to the Challaghatta metro station was a decisive factor in selecting the location. The area offers relatively easy access through both road and metro connectivity, which is considered crucial for a project of this scale and public importance. A senior BDA official said that improved accessibility would help manage visitor footfall and reduce traffic congestion around the project once it becomes operational.

Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, who also holds the Bengaluru Development portfolio, inspected the proposed site on Thursday and expressed confidence that the project would move forward without further hurdles. One of the prominent locations previously under consideration was a site near NICE Road. However, that proposal had to be dropped due to land acquisition challenges and objections raised by the NICE Road authorities. DK Shivakumar openly acknowledged that disputes over land ownership and control stalled the earlier plan.

“We had decided to acquire some Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) land that was with NICE, but they objected. They think they are bigger than the government. I know how to teach them a lesson. Now, we have finalised BDA land and will proceed with the project,” Shivakumar said, underlining the government’s determination to execute the project without private land disputes.

Officials said that opting for BDA-owned land at Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Layout would help avoid prolonged legal battles and ensure smoother implementation.

Features of the proposed skydeck

The proposed skydeck will rise to a height of around 250 metres, making it the tallest structure in Bengaluru once completed. The tower is expected to offer a panoramic 360-degree view of the city, allowing visitors to experience Bengaluru’s urban sprawl, green spaces, and surrounding landscapes from an unprecedented vantage point.

According to preliminary plans, the skydeck will include observation decks, visitor amenities, and supporting infrastructure such as parking facilities, landscaped public spaces, and possibly commercial or exhibition areas.
