Bengaluru: Bengaluru Airport Customs officials on Tuesday November 29 seized 3 kg of gold from a 22-year-old male passenger concealed inside two electric iron boxes in his check-in luggage. According to sources, the gold, valued at Rs. 1.62 Crore, was being smuggled from Dubai on an Emirates flight.
This is the first time that a recovery of this type has been made on the Airbus A380, the largest passenger aircraft in the world, which made its debut in the City in September. The EK-568 flight arrived at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) at 2.30 am.
According to sources, the steel soleplate of the boxes was where the gold was being concealed. It was melted, and then the paste was impressed on it to make it well-concealed inside the plate.
It was put through a sophisticated scanner based on suspicion, and the scan verified that there was something hidden inside. The gold was found after the iron boxes were broken.
