Bengaluru: ‘Amrita Jyothi registration drive to begin from Octobee 15’

Bengaluru: Energy, Kannada and Culture Minister V. Sunil Kumar has instructed to launch a massive campaign from October 15 to 30 for registration of “Amrita Jyothi” scheme, which will provide free electricity up to 75 units to BPL cardholders belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.

He was speaking at the progress review meeting of the Energy Department on Thursday October 13 and pulled up the officials over the technical glitches related to the implementation of the Project. He advised them not to put excessive technical aspects in projects to be done on priority.

In this context, he instructed to conduct a 15-day campaign for registration of beneficiaries and the registration process should be conducted from October 15 to 30, he said. Further, he instructed them to complete the process as much as possible.

Already 2.5 lakh applications have been received, noted and said 10 lakh beneficiaries should be registered till the end of the campaign.

Preparations should be made from today to hold a huge gathering of beneficiaries within the jurisdiction of all power supply companies. The conventions will be held in Chitradurga, Chamarajanagara, Bidar and Bagalakote, he said and instructed them to make all necessary arrangements for the same.

Minister said, “The process of providing electricity connections under the Illumination Project should be reviewed from time to time. Applications received so far in all the districts should be linked by November 15.” He also directed that new applications can be linked.

He also directed to conduct campaign for TC and Feeder Maintenance drive from November 1 to 15 and from December 1 to 15 to reduce the technical cost.
