Bengaluru: Police arrested a man who assaulted and dragged a woman out of a temple here. A video of the woman being kicked, dragged and beaten with sticks had gone viral on social media.

The arrested has been identified as Munikrishnappa, In-Charge of Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple in Amruthahalli.

The incident happened on December 21 and it came to light after the woman filed a complaint with the Amruthahalli Police Station.

In the viral video, a man is seen pulling a woman by her hair across a temple floor. He lunges for her dupatta as she tries to stop him, pushing her out the temple door. As the woman resists, the accused can be seen slapping her before grabbing a rod to thrash her.

Munikrisha told police that the woman claimed that Lord Venkateshwara was her husband and wanted to sit next to the idol in the sanctum sanctorum. When her demand was rejected, she spit on the priest after which she was asked to leave. As the woman did not listen, she was beaten and dragged out, he told the police.
