A Bengaluru banker has been apprehended for allegedly stealing 24 laptops valued at Rs 10 lakh from paying guest (PG) accommodations and software companies across the city, as reported by The Hindu.
Police in the HAL area of the city arrested 26-year-old Jassi Agarwal from Noida on March 26 following a complaint from a PG resident.
Investigations unveiled that the woman, an engineering graduate, briefly worked at a private bank and resided in a PG for a short period. Exploiting moments when fellow residents were away for meals, she would enter their rooms to pilfer laptops and other valuables.
Subsequently, she would return to her hometown and sell the stolen items in the black market before returning to Bengaluru to repeat the cycle at another PG accommodation. Authorities disclosed that the accused quit her job around 12 months ago and dedicated her efforts to laptop theft.
This incident is part of a recent trend where individuals quit their jobs, engage in laptop theft, and are subsequently detained for their crimes. Additionally, two accomplices were involved in the thefts, receiving the stolen gadgets and selling them outside. The primary accused, a computer science graduate with prior employment at a software firm, targeted PG accommodations to steal the devices, which were then sold elsewhere.
