Bengaluru: Officials and staff of the corporation have chosen to observe a black day on Monday October 31 to protest the State Government’s decision to transfer unqualified officers to the BBMP by allegedly violating the C&R (Corporation Cadre and Recruitment) Rules. The members plan to go on strike from November 2.

It can be recalled that BBMP South Zone Deputy Commissioner Lakshmi Devi was suddenly transferred, and in her place, Assistant Director of the Social Welfare Department J. Raju, who is not a KAS Officer, was posted. This move was termed ‘illegal’ by A. Amruthraj, President of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike Officer and Employees Welfare Association.

He claimed that the decision to hold the black day was made to secure the fulfilment of their 18 demands, which included the issuance of health cards to BBMP officers and employees, the cancellation of the process of assigning officers from other departments to posts in the corporation, and the delay in holding Kempegowda awards from the past two years.

Amruthraj further stressed that the government should issue an order to fill the 5,219 posts that have been unfilled for four years at the corporation.
