A week after the explosion at a well-known restaurant in Bengaluru, new CCTV footage of the bombing suspect—who has so far avoided capture—has surfaced. On Thursday, an NIA team arrived in Ballari, based on reports suggesting the suspect had traveled to northern Karnataka.
Sources claim that footage captured by CCTV shows the suspect in Ballari and Tumakuru. According to the evidence, the suspect may have taken a bus to Mantralaya in the Andhra Pradesh region of Kurnool after leaving Bengaluru following the explosion.
Police are looking into if anyone saw the suspect during the more than 350-kilometer trip. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) personnel have dispersed throughout Uttar Kannada and adjacent regions in an effort to apprehend the suspect.
Investigators believe that the suspect wearing a baseball cap got to the Rameshwaram Cafe by bus route 500D, based on CCTV footage. He arrived at the restaurant at 11:34 am and departed after nine minutes. His face was hidden by a mask while he was in the cafe and elsewhere, however an image taken inside a public bus displays his entire face unveiled from a mask, cap, or sunglasses.
The NIA is probing if he changed his attire en route. His baseball cap was reportedly recovered from a place of worship at least 5 km from the cafe. Officials said at least one person is being questioned at the place of worship.
The Rameshwaram Cafe, meanwhile, is all set to reopen for the public on Friday that could also see chief minister Siddaramaiah in attendance. The proprietors received a go-ahead after the police, National Security Guard (NSG), forensic and NIA teams gathered all material evidence from the spot. The exact site of the blast will remain secured even as the public is allowed in the rest of the eatery.
