In an unusual twist, Bengaluru police have arrested a 38-year-old man, Manjunath, alias “Parivala Manja,” known for using pigeons to aid his burglaries. The burglar, who hails from Hosur but is originally from Nagarathpet, is suspected of being responsible for around 50 house break-ins across the city.
Manjunath’s distinctive modus operandi involved carrying pigeons as he scouted buildings, particularly targeting multi-storeyed complexes without security personnel. His method was to release one or two pigeons near potential targets. The birds, upon flying up and landing on the rooftop or balcony, provided the cover for Manjunath to break into the property. If residents confronted him, he would simply explain that he was chasing his pigeons.
Once he identified a locked home, Manjunath used an iron rod to break through doors, cupboards, and safes, making away with cash and gold jewellery. According to reports, he later sold the stolen goods in Hosur.
A Return to Crime Despite Multiple Arrests
Despite having been arrested multiple times in the past, Manjunath continued his criminal activities each time he was released on bail. His latest arrest by the City Market police has helped solve at least four ongoing burglary cases reported in Bengaluru’s City Market and Ulsoor Gate areas.
According to police, Manjunath operated alone and typically targeted houses during the day when occupants were away at work. Investigators are now hoping to recover more stolen items linked to his operations. This arrest is seen as a breakthrough in addressing a series of burglaries that have been troubling the neighbourhood.
