A heartfelt social media post by a Bengaluru-based Chartered Accountant has struck a chord with professionals and students alike, highlighting how perseverance and resourcefulness often become life’s greatest teachers.
Meenal Goel, a former Deloitte employee, recently reflected on her early years while pursuing her Chartered Accountancy qualification. At the time, she earned just ₹15,000 a month, a significant portion of which went towards securing a quiet place to study.
Choosing independence over comfort
According to Goel, ₹10,000 from her monthly salary was spent on rent for a single-occupancy room. While the decision left little money for daily expenses, she considered it necessary to create an environment where she could focus on preparing for her examinations.
Determined not to burden her parents financially, she chose to manage on her own despite the challenges.
“I was too proud to ask my parents for money,” she recalled, explaining that her family had already sacrificed a great deal to support her education and upbringing.
A simple solution to a difficult problem
With limited funds available after paying rent, Goel developed a practical routine to reduce her expenses. She would have lunch at the office buffet and save a portion of the food for dinner, helping her stretch her budget through the month.
Looking back, she described those years as a time before food delivery apps and frequent indulgences. Every expenditure had to be carefully considered, and small sacrifices became part of daily life.
Lessons beyond finance
What stayed with her most was not the hardship but the lessons it taught. According to Goel, the experience showed her that financial limitations often encourage creativity, adaptability and resilience.
She noted that many self-made individuals have similar stories—moments of sacrifice, compromise or determination that often go unnoticed but ultimately shape their future success.
Her post prompted many social media users to share their own journeys, reflecting on the challenges they overcame while building careers and pursuing their dreams.
The story serves as a reminder that success is often built not only on opportunity but also on perseverance during difficult times.
