Bengaluru: A local court in the City sentenced BJP MLA Uday Garudachar to two months of imprisonment on Thursday October 13 for hiding facts in his electoral affidavit.
He was sentenced to prison and fined Rs. 10,000 by an Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court for failing to disclose two pending criminal cases against him as well as the fact that he was the Managing Director of a private company.
According to the Representation of People’s Act, he was found guilty after a complaint was made in this regard.
Even though the MLA was granted a bail, the court sentenced him so he could appeal to a higher court because the sentencing was less than two years. A Rs. 25,000 personal bond and a surety were used to release him.
Uday Garudachar won from the Chikkapete Assembly Constituency in Bengaluru on a BJP ticket in 2018. On April 18, 2018, the affidavit was submitted.
It was claimed that even though he worked as the Managing Director of a private company, his name was only mentioned in the affidavit as an investor. The election affidavit also did not mention that his wife was a Director of the same company. Additionally, it was found that he had not mentioned in the affidavit his wife’s bank account details.
