Bengaluru: Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has directed the Finance Department to release Rs. 13 Crore vaccination, treatment and compensation to the deceased cows to prevent the spread of lumpy skin disease in the State.
CM Bommai chaired a review meeting of Lumpy Skin disease at Residence Office, Krishna here on Friday October 14. An amount of Rs. 2 Crore has already been sanctioned as a compensation for the dead cattle. An additional Rs. 5 Crore has been released. A total of Rs. 8 Crore to be allocated for the treatment and vaccination of cattle.
The disease has affected 4380 villages in 160 taluks of 28 districts of the State. As many as 45,645 cattle have contracted the disease and 26,135 cattle have been cured with 2070 cattle dying of the disease.
In all 6.57 lakh cattle have been vaccinated. As per the guidelines of the Government of India, 5 km after the outbreak of the disease, the officials said healthy cattle should be vaccinated within the perimeter. In view of this, he instructed the districts where the disease is severe to be vaccinated on priority and asked them to provide 15 lakh doses of vaccines immediately. He instructed the Secretaries of the Department of Animal Husbandry to hold talks with the companies approved by the Government of India on the supply of vaccine and take steps to provide the vaccine.
In Haveri and Kolar Districts, where the skin disease is severe, strict measures should be taken to control the disease. Precautions should be taken not to spread to other districts, he said and urged them to intensify the vaccination drive.
