Bengaluru: Crematorium workers’ kids to be admitted in top schools

Bengaluru: Social Welfare Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary has said that the children of crematorium workers will be brought under the purview of the Department’s scheme to admit children from weaker sections in prestigious schools.

The Minister, who held a meeting at Vidhana Soudha on Wednesday October 12 regarding providing facilities to the crematorium workers said that the children of crematorium workers will be admitted on priority under the scheme of the Social Welfare Department to admit the children of the weaker sections in prestigious schools. The scheme involves enrolling 1,000 children of 14 categories, including children of nomads, devadasis, children whose parents have died and orphaned and disabled children in prestigious schools every year. Now an order will be issued giving priority to the children of crematorium workers too, he said.

Poojary added, “Steps will also be taken to increase the number of admissions from 1,000 to 2,000. In addition steps will be taken to make the workers of the crematoriums permanent and distribute various facilities including plots, houses, health cards, identity cards, and fixation of minimum wages among others. He also said that discussions will be held with the Department of Panchayat Raj and Urban Development regarding the details of crematoriums in every gram panchayat, town panchayat, municipality, municipal corporation and hiring of one labourer for the cremation ground.

Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary has instructed all deputy commissioners of the State to identify a site for the construction of a relief centre for refugees at the district level. The minister, who held a meeting with Deputy Commissioners via video conferencing at Vikasa Soudha on Wednesday October 12 said that begging has been completely banned and steps should be taken to build relief centres at the district level for refugees and identify a place for the same at the earliest.
