A private daycare centre in Bengaluru has been shut down after CCTV footage allegedly revealed disturbing incidents of abuse involving infants and toddlers, prompting police to register a case against five caregivers.

The facility was closed following complaints from parents, who approached the police after reviewing surveillance footage that allegedly showed children being subjected to physical abuse.

Daycare closed after abuse allegations

The daycare ceased operations after the allegations surfaced, with authorities launching an investigation into the incidents captured on CCTV.

According to the complaint, the footage allegedly showed caregivers engaging in acts of physical abuse against children entrusted to their care.

The alleged incidents include:

  • Placing infants inside a washing machine
  • Spraying toddlers with water using a toilet jet
  • Hitting and roughly handling children
  • Dragging and force-feeding toddlers

The videos triggered outrage among parents and led to swift police action.

Five caregivers booked

Police have registered a case against five women employed at the daycare under relevant legal provisions.

Investigators have seized CCTV footage and are questioning the accused, parents and the management to establish the sequence of events and determine whether additional action is warranted.

The identities of the accused have not been officially released.

Parents raised concerns after behavioural changes

Several parents reportedly became suspicious after noticing unusual behavioural changes in their children following visits to the daycare.

After examining CCTV recordings, they allegedly discovered repeated instances of abuse and immediately filed a police complaint.

Authorities are now reviewing the footage in detail to determine the frequency and nature of the alleged mistreatment.

Investigation underway

Police are investigating whether the daycare complied with prescribed childcare norms and whether lapses in supervision contributed to the alleged abuse.

The incident has sparked renewed concerns over safety standards in private daycare centres and prompted calls for stricter regulation, regular inspections and enhanced monitoring of childcare facilities.

Further action will depend on the outcome of the ongoing investigation.
