Bengaluru: Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai inaugurated the three-day ‘Hampi Utsav’ amid empty chairs on Friday January 27.

The Congress, which has tweeted a series of tweets regarding the vacant seats, has lashed out at the State Government and Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai.

There are also empty chairs for BJP government program too. The empty chairs are a testimony to the impatience and anger of the people towards the BJP government,” the Congress tweeted.

Questioning CM Congress tweeted, “was there a need to spend Rs. 4 crore to entertain empty chairs at Hampi festival?”

Bommai, who sat on the CM’s chair had promised of reducing unnecessary cost. Is it necessary or unnecessary to pay Rs. 4.5 crore for the 5-minute video? According to the CM, unnecessary expenditure means mid-day meal, Indira canteens, anganwadi grants, scholarships, housing schemes but 40 per cent commission will be given – necessary expenses!” the Congress said.

Bommai ji, isn’t it shameful that the government has spent Rs. 4 Crore on Hampi festival to entertain empty chairs? There is no money for child malnutrition prevention programmes. There is no grant for anganwadis and hostel problem of Scheduled Caste students has not been resolved. Why is the money for the festival not available for pro-people schemes?”

“40,000 seats were arranged in front of the stage. But there were not even two thousand people. The chairs for the dignitaries and the public were all empty. Everyone was talking, ‘There are no people at all.’ The opening ceremony was to be held at 6.00 pm. However, it was delayed by an hour as there were no people. But the people did not turn up.

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai inaugurated the festival amidst empty chairs. Within an hour, the stage programme had come to an end. Then the cultural programmes began. But the people did not turn up. Even after 9.00 pm, people did not come. There have been allegations that lack of publicity is the reason for this.
