Bengaluru: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is planning to survey the presence of property owners after the Dasara Holidays. The Karnataka High Court has warned the civic body of action against its Chief Commissioner if the encroachments on rajakaluves are not cleared.
Following last month’s heavy rains that created a flood-like situation in the City, mainly in the IT corridor, the BBMP launched an anti-encroachment drive and had unlawful buildings removed from several zones. The BBMP, however, stopped the drive last week, citing a pending encroachments survey.
The Karnataka High Court had verbally warned on Friday September 30, that if encroachments are not removed quickly, it might also be decided to order the withholding of the chief engineers’ salaries for the BBMP. The BBMP has so far removed 94 illegal encroachments from the city, however, there are still 602 encroachments on SWDs that need to be cleared.
