A 27-year-old software engineer in Bengaluru was allegedly assaulted and robbed after being lured through a dating application to a meetup arranged by a gang posing as users on the platform.

According to reports, the victim had connected with individuals through the app before being called to a location where the situation reportedly turned violent.

Victim allegedly threatened with knife

Police sources said the engineer was allegedly attacked by a group that threatened him with a knife before robbing him of valuables and cash.

The accused reportedly intimidated the victim and forced him to comply during the assault. Authorities are now investigating the sequence of events and attempting to identify those involved.

Police begin investigation

Bengaluru City Police have reportedly registered a case and launched an investigation into the robbery and assault.

Growing concern over online meetup crimes

The incident has once again highlighted safety concerns linked to online interactions and app-based meetups.

Cyber safety experts continue to advise users to exercise caution while meeting strangers through social or dating platforms. Authorities recommend choosing public places, informing trusted contacts, and avoiding isolated locations during first meetings.

Police also urged citizens to immediately report threats, extortion attempts, or suspicious online activity to authorities.

Safety awareness remains important
